With the continued absence of John due to medical reasons, the band were on the back foot somewhat, having enrolled the help of Adora Vox bassman Mike at very late notice. After all of six hours practice with the band, it has to be said he performed phenomenally. Following a brief reprise of their acoustic set of 19 November the band came on to a depleted Monday night set of punters who were treated to another überslice of Dogstand showbiz. Led from the front by Queen Carli they fired off song after song like a volley of gunfire. From the gutsy rendition of Jacque Brel’s IF YOU GO AWAY to the anthemic snake charming quality of EASIER, the Dogs gave their steadily expanding audience plenty to cheer about. A lot must be said also for the technical skills of the resident soundman John, who for once did the band justice with a great vocal mix, allowing the spine tingling three part harmonies to bounce around the room. One particular highlight for this old codger was their ‘festival hit’ in waiting—HERE COMES THE NIGHT, a masterpiece of light and shade which is a showcase for Paul Langford’s lead guitar wizardry.
